RNC Program Expansion to Duke Energy Carolinas Territory in NC

After an extensive evaluation, the Duke Energy Progress(DEP) Residential New Construction (RNC) Program is ready to expand to all Duke Energy jurisdictions in North Carolina which includes Duke Energy Carolinas(DEC). We greatly appreciate your patience while the required due diligence has been carried out.

This News article describes the timeline of the expansion and provides DEC RNC incentives. Please reach out to the Program team at DERNC@icfprogram.com with questions.

For consistency and clarity, the Duke Energy jurisdictions will be referenced as follows…

  • Duke Energy Carolinas (or DEC) refers to legacy Duke Energy territory. The RNC Program has not been offered in DEC until now. DEC includes all of Charlotte, the Triad, and parts of the Asheville area in NC.

What the expansion means for you:

  • If you build or work in Duke Energy Carolinas in NC, those homes will be eligible for the RNC Program.

  • If your larger organization has a division in a DEC service area, they will be eligible to participate. Please forward this email to contacts at affected divisions.

  • All non-Duke Energy electric providers will remain ineligible in this Program.

  • Duke Energy plans to file in South Carolina and will update as needed.

Timeline and Incentives:

  • The DEC expansion will officially launch on 8/1/2022.

    • DEC homes permitted on or after 1/7/2022 will be eligible for incentives and can be submitted for payment starting on 8/1/2022.

    • All DEC homes achieving the HERO+HERS rebate tier will receive:

      • $0.75/kWh for heating savings only in homes with a natural gas furnace.

      • $0.40/kWh for heating savings only in homes with electrically fueled heating.

      • All other savings types in homes will be incentivized at $0.75/kWh.

      • HERO-only homes will receive $650 / home.

      • Equipment incentives will receive $300 for qualifying central air and heat pump systems.

      • The maximum incentive is $6,000 per home.

      • Home heating fuel type examples on HERO+HERS incentives:

        • Current DEP Incentive avg (electric heated home): $3,560

        • Estimated incentive avg under DEC payment structure (electric heated home): $2,303

        • Current DEP Incentive avg (gas heated home): $1,581

        • Estimated incentive avg under DEC payment structure (gas heated home): $1,413

In summary:

The DEC RNC program will go live on 8/1/2022. The Program team looks forward to working with our current participants and building new partnerships in the expanded territory in NC.

*The Duke Energy Progress (DEP) RNC incentives will remain until further notice.
